Monday Checklist: Poetry, Books & The Blue Book
“You live several lives while reading.” William Styron
Hi,
It was not a convincing notion to separate from writing to you for the longest time. However, I have a cluster of good news as well as a couple of terrific books to share with you. Come, let's start!
Altadena Poetry Review has officially published 52 poems by 38 poets who wrote 'In Synergy' with art showcased by 14 artists in the Review's Synergy Portfolio. I'm proud to share the space with ridiculously talented poets and writers from around the world.
You can read my poems ‘Aubade’ & ‘Cupid’s Bow’ here.
The mission of the Altadena Poetry Review is to publish poets and writers from Altadena, Pasadena, and LA County. Im pumped up to be included in this visionary movement catalyzing poetry.
I am stoked to share that Packingtown Review, the literary journal of the University of Illinois, Chicago has acknowledged and published my work in their 19th issue this year.
Packingtown Review was founded in 2007 at the University of Illinois at Chicago by Ph.D. students in the English department. The first two issues feature poetry, prose, drama, literary scholarship, and cultural commentary by new and established authors not only from the United States but also from Germany, Romania, Greece, Egypt, France, and Holland. The first issue came out in March 2009, and the second in March 2010. Packingtown Review launched in April 2013 as an independent online publication appearing annually.
You can read my works here:
My poem 'Shiv Tattva' was published by Quadrant Australia in July/August 2022. Unfortunately, they could not deliver the contributor's copy then, but, after a long and painful waiting period, I received the digital issue in which my work appeared.
Special thanks to Professor Barry Spur for playing the role of the Lender of Last Resort. ;) I am Kicked to share the work with you!
In 2022, I managed to hunt down a few dazzling classics by esteemed publishers focused on Bhakti Poetry, Medicine & Psychology. I am happy to take you on a short trip to these exemplary books. Let’s DO this!!
The Secret Garland, andal | Translated from Tamil by Archana Venkatesan is an essential addition to the classic library. It is an experience with ethereal poetry and it aims to capture the lyricism, beauty, and power of the original poems.
Adult children of Emotionally Immature Parents | Lindsay C. Gibson, PsyD
(Trigger Warning (TW): Anxiety, Guilt, Childhood Trauma, Substance Abuse, Abandonment)
While our childhoods can be painful to discuss at times, they will always be a part of us and as such, are a part of the tapestry woven into our lives. Perhaps you noticed that your childhood felt shorter than others, due to being confronted with sterner realities than most do. You felt lonelier than most other children, or isolated in some way.
While some like to treat things as simply positive or negative in their entirety, I prefer to describe the negative as "challenges" - even the worst of experiences can better our understanding and propel us forward into an improved future. These wounds can be healed, and you can move forward in your life. In this breakthrough book, clinical psychologist Lindsay C. Gibson exposes an often overlooked, yet extremely common syndrome that shapes the lives of so many people.
Rifqa by Mohammed El-Kurd Haymarket Books, Chicago, Illinois
“We have wounded feet but the rhythm remains,
no matter the adjectives on my shoulders.”
Mohammed El-Kurd’s poetry is a home, one you hold and return to habitually. Albeit highlighting only a few of Kurd’s poems is as difficult as not starting the day with a cup of fabulous coffee, I would like to share a few lines from Muhammed’s work, Rifqa.
And, here is the book.
Before I hit the sack, have a look at “The Blue Book”. This book is a memory, it was gifted to me when I was looking for a credible source of commentaries on profound topics such as life, death, spiritual awakening, etc.
It was lovely connecting with you. Write to me soon!
